The moral of the story seems to be that if you want to be a writer and you can tell a story or have a feel for character, you can become a novelist. If you want to be a writer, and you love knowledge, you can become a scholar. If you want to be a writer, but you always screw up the punchline, and you're too lazy to look anything up, you can become a journalist.
